Lewis Hamilton has promised to keep his title clean with Max Verstappen because he doesn’t want to win it the ‘dirty’ way.

The Briton also says he is not afraid of a Michael Schumacher style swept away in Sunday’s crunch race.

It was the all-time winner in Abu Dhabi for the F1 season finale as both drivers tied on points.

Verstappen, though, has the edge in wins, 9 out of 8 for Hamilton, meaning that if BOTH are eliminated, the Dutchman will be crowned champion.

In 1994, Schumacher collided with Damon Hill, knocking both drivers out of the race, helping the German win the title.

Schumacher repeated the dangerous situation in 1997 when he crashed into Jacques Villeneuve – but this time he was disqualified for the whole season, handing the victory to the Canadian.

Hamilton was asked by German publication Bild about whether he could expect similar treatment from Verstappen on Sunday.

He said, “No. I’m not afraid of what might or might not happen. I don’t leave any space for such thoughts.

“I have no history of such accidents but I can only drive the car and make my decisions, not for Max.

“Of course there are situations where you know that the corner can decide the world championship.

“But then you have to take risks to be the fastest and the first to cross the finish line. I want to win the title, but do it the right way. And not dirty.”
