Kuminga suffered the injury during the preseason on Oct. 6 in the fourth quarter against the Denver Nuggets. The exact play when it occurred is not known but he left the game under his own power and would not return. The team last week said he would be reevaluated in one week.
Kerr said Kuminga’s knee is improving based on his recent rehab.
(Kuminga is) really stepping up (his) rehab and on-court activity. (Wednesday) was a great day for (him). Kenny Atkinson is working closely with Jonathan and they’ve had good workouts the last two days, so the knee is improving.
The seventh pick played sparingly with the Warriors during his two preseason games. He registered eight points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 17 minutes between his two appearances, playing only in the second half in each contest.
Kerr said the Warriors have a good plan in place with Kuminga and will allow him to be fully healthy before returning. The team is also still in the process of determining his role for this season, so his absence will not impact the team too much.
